Prospectus
This prospectus will help you appreciate the religious, academic and sporting culture that is promoted at the College.
St Bernard's College is a great school to be part of.
One comment made many times by our Old Boys and parents is that St Bernard's produces an all-round student who lives by Christian values, is able to further his studies, successfully seeks employment and feels at home in any cultural environment.
We are not big - but every year our sports teams rank in the top three of the Wellington region. We have top musicians and performers in cultural events and our academic results are impressive.
We encourage every student to appreciate the privilege of being a St Bernard's College boy. At enrolment, we stress academic achievement, an interest in sports, Christian values and parental support so that the teachers, the students and parents, in partnership, can provide the opportunity for each student to reach his full potential. The boys tell us that they are proud of their College and they enjoy coming to school.
I am always happy to discuss enrolment and an educational programme that meets the needs of a student.

The English Language Programme
St Bernard's College makes a very strong commitment to ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Individual education plans are set up, leading to full integration when the student is ready. All international students receive tuition in English. Other students who need extra assistance with English (as a second language) are assessed through the Learning Support programme and an appropriate plan is put in place.
Short term group enrolment with a focus on English is also available.
Overseas applicants will be tested for their ability to understand and write English. A minimum standard of English is required before enrolment is confirmed, because all classes are taught in English. If a need is identified, a comprehensive and intensive ESOL programme will be made available. This programme will be carried out by qualified teachers. This assistance will continue as long as necessary.
